This glass landscape pays homage to the unique color, geography, and material culture of the US Southwest.

The colorful mesas and buttes of the Four Corners region were the inspiration for this art. Created from decades of eroding sandstone, siltstone, shale, and limestone, this unique landscape depicts mesmerizing flat-topped trapezoid and triangle forms. Geometric motifs are also common in traditional and contemporary Native American pottery, basketry, and weavings. In admiration of these distinctive forms, this glass landscape contains over 150 pieces of hand-cut trapezoid and triangle glass shapes that make up the sky, steep-sided angled towers of rock, and grassland canyon floor.

Buttes are especially prevalent in the arid regions of the US Southwest. To see examples of these landforms, visit these national treasures. Fajada Butte in Chaco Culture National Park, NM; Red Rock State Park, AZ; Grand Canyon National Park, AZ; Zion National Park, UT and Pawnee National Park, CO.
